Happy Monday! Time to start Week 2!
Actually, though...that was my pep talk to myself this morning to get up.
I had to slap my face a couple times. Rough start.
Breakfast always helps!
By the way...this bread that my mom makes has actual cooked rice in it! She takes leftover cooked rice and bakes it right into the bread! I've never heard of that before, but I'm thinking that she could make a pretty penny selling loaves of this.
School was a bit difficult to get through today. It's a lot to handle all the new information at once. Meeps. The three hours go by quickly, but my brain slowly deteriorates as each hour passes and more grammar, vocab, and Kanji are thrown our way.
たくさんれんしゅうしなくちゃだめ!
It's all good though. It's nice to exercise my brain a lot during the summer!
I am definitely not wasting my time here. Makes me feel accomplished to learn tons of new things everyday!
But...time to take a break. Lunch time!
I kind of put together my own lunch by buying a few individual things.
Customized bento. A bit random and weird. Like me!
I bought some cherries and a caramel pudding flavored yogurt.
It sounded weird so I got it. I approve.
I also had a piece of Saba shioyaki and some konbu maki (rolled pieces of simmered konbu seaweed).
I was really excited though, because today's scheduled activity was Wagashi making! Wagashi is a general term for Japanese sweets, usually made with adzuki paste and mochi, and served with tea.
On the bus to go make some sweets!
When we arrived, the tables were set with the tools and ingredients needed to make our creations!
We started out with 3 pieces of adzuki paste, and 3 colored pieces of white bean paste. We rolled, smooshed, pinched, grated....
Then....
Tada!!! My very own wagashi! I was pretty proud! They are so ka-yoooot!!
The wagashi master who instructed us through the demonstration!
We got to take them home with us in a pretty box to share with our families!
But soon, the fun ended and work resumed.
Wa wahhhhhh....so much to do! Got a lil bit stressed. Had to get out of the classroom setting. Peace out Rifare. Until tomorrow morning.
When I got home, Haruki was having a little melt down, crying about his homework.
"I can't do any of it!" he cried. Dooooode. I was feeling his PAIN. I kind of wanted to join in. But...didn't think that would have been appropriate. Along with a crying Kaho, a house full of crying people wouldn't have been too great.
Luckily, the kids calmed down a bit, and I felt a bit better after getting some work done. Phew.
Time to eat. I need a break.
Korean food tonight!
Bibimbap!
Kaho was goin at it...
Then we all shared my wagashi! The kids loved it.
Kaho wouldn't stop licking the box, she loved it so much. She is a character.
I'm glad Monday is over! My stress level was a bit higher than usual.
Bring it on, Tuesday! I'm ready for ya!
