Class room struggles and pottery time troubles

I am definitely finding a routine here in Japan now. I don't even freak out and have to pay too much attention on the bus now! I'd say progress.

I'd also say that breakfast was delicious as per usual!

fried eggs, vegetables, a thick slice of ham, my favorite bread ever, homemade minestrone soup, and orange slices! and of course coffee. I don't think I could stay awake in class without some caffeine encouragement.

But I survived! Topics included Global Warming, making similes comparing people to animals, and gossip and rumors. umm....what?! Why? In one chapter? I was so confused.

Luckily, I got to take my mind off of crazy grammar and vocab conundrums with some pottery!
Round 2 y'all!

So, when we left off, my bowl was like this:

After some carving and shaving and rolling and all that other stuff,
my bowl became closer to a chawan like this:
Just look at all the shavings. Proof of my hard work.

Scrape it off, scrape it off! scrape it off, scrape it off! wo ah oh!
(To the tune of "Shake if off")

Once my bowl made a little improvement from (according to the teacher) あまりきれいじゃない (not very pretty at all) to だいじょうぶ (ok), my work was done until the next and final round!

After the pottery, my mom took Emmy and I (and a lil Haruki, who as a boy, got dragged along and sat  outside eating his strawberry kit kat) to a kimono shop for a little browsing, ooing, and "If I were raised in Japan, I could buy one for my 20th birthday"-ing...

I especially loved this fabric. Looks like a watercolor!

I did manage to walk away without dropping a few hundred on a kimono, so my wallet is still in safe territory. It was pretty close to the danger zone though. so close.

Dinner time! Gyudon, hiyayakko, miso soup, horenso gomae, and cucumber tsukemono made from our own home grown cucumber!

Dinner was great as always, but homework and studying had to begin...
so I naturally sat with my パソコン and went on facebook. Later!
