Does sushi make up for a slap in the face?

This morning I got slapped in the face. Ok...maybe not quite, but it definitely felt that way.
Last night I was so tired that I didn't finish studying. I planned on waking up early to finish learning all the material, but I was so out of it that I forgot to press "Set" on my alarm. Luckily I woke up on time...albeit a bit flustered.

This wonderful breakfast was accompanied by a side of 'freak out-cram-wait I don't know this' time.

So yeah. I got to school.
Test complete. Fifteen minutes later, quiz complete. By the end of the second hour, homework turned in. I have survived the choke slap of the week! I'm alive!

Time to make sushi!
Since the topic of today's chapter is Cooking, a little maki sushi making activity was in order. I think this was the teachers' way of making up for the rough morning...I can't decide if its a fair trade off.

The ざいりょう!

Let's rolllllll!

Look at this kid. The focus. Iron Chef material.

My finished product!

 はい!どうぞ!

The teachers voted for the prettiest maki sushi, and I won!
Maybe this was worth the pain after all....
A sushi postcard and a little porcelain cup from a well-known Japanese tableware 店!

After a two hour lecture, I was spent, so I headed home.

Do you remember when you first started learning how to read? How you'd read everything? Stop signs, restaurant names, anything with writing?
Well, I realized that is exactly how I am right now. With my rapidly expanding arsenal of Kanji, I am starting to be able read!
See this bus stop name? Before I came to Japan, I couldn't read it.
Now, I have 3 out of 5 characters down! Cool.

Some beautiful あじさい on my way home...

Here, the kids are playing with a lantern that my father just bought.
I love how kids are fascinated by everyday things.
I kind of feel like a kid in Japan, seeing new things everyday with new eyes.

Now with a little homework under my belt, time to eat and relax.

Feastin well tonight!
Thinly sliced Japanese pork, with cabbage salad, marinated bean sprouts and daikon, yuzu ika, mozuku seaweed, miso soup, and rice.

And Kyoho grapes for dessert. Gooood night.
